Kingfisher School confirms January 2025 Opening

Kingfisher School, the third newly established school under Melrose Education, has received official registration from the Department for Education and will open in January 2025. Situated in a fully refurbished building in Weymouth, Dorset, the school has been designed to provide a nurturing and welcoming environment tailored to the needs of children aged 6 to 16 years, with special educational needs. The school will deliver a bespoke, tailored curriculum offer and will support learners with a broad range of social, emotional and mental health needs, autism spectrum disorder, moderate learning difficulties and various other special educational needs, including neurodivergent, trauma, complex, intimate and physical needs.

The school’s transformation involved extensive renovations to create spaces that foster social, emotional, and academic development. Kingfisher School’s location, with Weymouth Bay, the picturesque harbour, and the Jurassic Coast, less than one mile away, will also offer learners unique opportunities for educational trips and outdoor learning, enhancing their overall experience and connection to their community.

“We are delighted to confirm the opening date of Kingfisher School and eagerly await the opportunity to welcome our first learners in January,” said Tracey Storey, Executive Chair and CEO of Melrose Education. “This launch is a significant milestone for Melrose Education, and we are incredibly proud to open a school so thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of children with special educational needs. Kingfisher School will offer learners not only a personalised learning environment but also direct access to some of Dorset’s most inspiring natural landscapes, providing meaningful opportunities for both academic and personal growth.”

With an emphasis on individualised education, Kingfisher School will provide a holistic approach to learning that nurtures each learner’s unique potential. The refurbished school is equipped with engaging spaces that encourage exploration and creativity. Learners will benefit from Melrose Education’s mission to provide inspirational and outstanding education in a truly positive, empathetic, and transformational environment.
