Kingfisher School in Weymouth is celebrating a hugely positive outcome following its first full inspection, with inspectors recognising a strong culture of safeguarding, inclusion and learner wellbeing across the school.
The inspection, carried out in February 2026, confirmed that all independent school standards are met, with several areas identified as operating at a strong standard. Inspectors highlighted the school’s personalised approach, its deep understanding of learners’ needs and the meaningful progress they make both academically and socially.
Inspectors found that safeguarding is embedded in the culture of the school, with an open and proactive environment where responsibilities are clearly understood and acted upon. As a result, learners feel safe, supported and able to thrive.
A key strength identified was the school’s highly individualised approach to education. Staff develop detailed learning plans tailored to each learner, supported by ongoing training and close collaboration with families and external professionals. This enables the school to respond quickly to changing needs and ensure learners receive the right support at the right time.
The report also recognised the school’s strong focus on personal development and wellbeing. A carefully structured programme supports learners to build resilience, develop social and life skills, and prepare for future pathways. Opportunities to engage with the local community, alongside a well-planned careers curriculum, were highlighted as valuable experiences that help learners develop confidence and independence.
Inspectors noted that learners benefit from a calm, structured environment and strong relationships with staff, which contribute to improved attendance, positive behaviour and a strong sense of belonging. Parents were described as highly positive about the impact of the school, with one referring to it as a “lighthouse” for families.
Leaders were praised for their clear vision, strong oversight and commitment to continuous improvement.
Julie Jeanes, Principal of Kingfisher School, said:
“We are incredibly proud of this report, which reflects the dedication, expertise and care shown by our entire team every day.
