Brook School has been formally approved to open following a successful pre-registration inspection by Ofsted, and subsequent confirmation from the Department for Education, marking a significant milestone for both the school and Melrose Education.
The inspection, carried out in March 2026, concluded that the school is likely to meet all independent school standards upon opening. This outcome reflects the strength of the school’s leadership, the quality of its planned provision and its clear commitment to supporting learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Inspectors recognised the proprietor’s extensive experience in opening and running specialist schools nationally, alongside a strong understanding of how to deliver high-quality education for learners with social, emotional and mental health needs, autism and moderate learning difficulties.
Brook School will be based in Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh, and is designed to provide a carefully structured, supportive environment for learners aged 11 to 16. The school will initially welcome Year 7 and Year 8 learners, gradually growing its cohort over the coming years to meet local demand for specialist provision.
The report highlights the school’s well-planned, broad curriculum, which is tailored to meet the diverse needs of its learners. A strong emphasis on literacy, personal development and life skills is embedded throughout, alongside a careers education programme designed to raise aspirations and prepare learners for their next steps.
Inspectors also noted that safeguarding arrangements, health and safety processes and staff recruitment procedures are robust and aligned with statutory requirements. The school’s environment has been carefully designed to support learners, with calm, low-stimulation classrooms, specialist facilities and outdoor spaces that promote wellbeing and engagement.
Leadership and governance were identified as key strengths, with clear systems of oversight, accountability and quality assurance already established. The school’s ethos, to act as a “lighthouse for pupils and families”,
underpins its approach to education and care.
Tracey Storey, Founder, CEO and Executive Chair of Melrose Education, said:
“This is a hugely important milestone for Brook School and a reflection of the dedication and expertise of everyone involved in bringing this vision to life. The approval to open confirms the strength of our approach and our commitment to delivering high-quality, specialist education for learners who need it most. We are proud to be expanding our provision and look forward to welcoming our first cohort of learners, supporting them to thrive both academically and personally.”
Brook School’s opening represents a significant addition to local SEND provision, offering families access to a nurturing, inclusive and highly personalised educational environment. With a strong foundation now in place, the school is set to make a meaningful difference to the lives of learners and their families from the very beginning.
